Holy Americana….what the hell just happened!
Last week in Nashville at the Americana Fest was one of the most incredible musical experiences I’ve had.
I had the opportunity to perform alongside some great western Canadian talent thanks to the folks at Break Out West. I thought Western Canada did a damn fine job representing and showing music city that’s there’s a whole lot of great music north of the border too.
The performances I saw during the week were so memorable, a night at the Ryman auditorium with some of the most amazing personalities and voices in song. A set with Tanya Tucker revitalized by the incredible Brandi Carlile after a 17 year hiatus, Lori McKenna playing to 300 people in a church singing some of the most incredibly touching songs….I could go on for pages… But instead, I put together a Spotify Playlist of some of my highlights. Check it out HERE
I’ve had experiences seeing a lot of great music all at once before, but the feeling has been different, almost discouraging…I think it’s easy to feel like there are so many great people doing this, how do I fit in? How am I going to be able to keep doing this? But Americana was different, it was hopeful and inclusive and it makes me want to work harder at my craft, play more and sing more.
There are still a lot of people out there who care about music and who believe in the power of a song. I’m just excited for the next song I write and all the fun musical adventures yet to come.
Thanks Americana. See you next year!
